Rivanna/CPAR Partnership
We are very pleased to share news regarding our partnership with Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR), a non-governmental organization (NGO) that works to overcome poverty and promote healthy lifestyles in Africa.
CPAR has programs in four locations in Africa. Rivanna specifically supports the program in Tanzania. Our partnership enables you to contribute directly to several of CPAR’s current initiatives in Tanzania’s Karatu District.
Our Plaques Plus products have been specially designed to reflect the ideals of CPAR. For each award purchased, we donate a portion of the proceeds to CPAR for programs including tree-planting, building energy-conserving stoves, providing safe water for schools, and supporting women living with HIV and AIDs.
Tanzania is one of the least developed countries in the world. One out of every six Tanzanian children will die before the age of five and one-third of the population is expected to die before the age of 40. Our partnership with CPAR Tanzania enables us to support community-based initiatives that are already making a significant difference, particularly in the lives of women and children.
By partnering with Rivanna, CPAR Tanzania will be able to expand vital programs to improve access to clean water and adequate sanitation, basic healthcare, and education.
Tanzania is home to Africa’s highest peak (Mt. Kilimanjaro), its largest lake (Lake Victoria), and some of its most spectacular topography, including the Great Rift Valley, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. It is considered to be one of the poorest countries in the world, with its Human Development Index value placing it 164th among 177 countries (Human Development Report 2005).
"Never doubt that a small group of commited people can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
