Rivanna/CPAR Partnership

We are very pleased to partner with Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR), a non-governmental organization (NGO) that works to overcome poverty and promote healthy lifestyles in Africa.

CPAR has programs in four locations in Africa. Rivanna specifically supports the program in Tanzania. Our partnership enables you to contribute directly to several of CPAR's current initiatives in Tanzania's Karatu District.

Our Plaques with Purpose have been specially designed to reflect the ideals of CPAR. For each award purchased, we donate a portion of the proceeds to CPAR for safe water for schools, and women living with HIV and AIDs.

Tanzania is one of the least developed countries in the world. One out of every six Tanzanian children will die before the age of five and one-third of the population is expected to die before the age of 40. Our partnership with CPAR Tanzania enables us to support community-based initiatives that are already making a significant difference, particularly in the lives of women and children.

Tanzania is home to Africa's highest peak (Mt. Kilimanjaro), its largest lake (Lake Victoria), and some of its most spectacular topography, including the Great Rift Valley, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. It is considered to be one of the poorest countries in the world, with its Human Development Index value placing it 164th among 177 countries (Human Development Report 2005).
